Project Zone

The project is situated in the region of Keur Massar, 25 km from Dakar the capital city of Senegal. The population of this zone is estimated to be around 57'000. It is a region with a high immigration rate and which was floaded several times the last three years. The village of Keur Aladji Pathé does not have a drinking water supply system in place. The drinking water is gained out of traditional wells. A socio-sanitary study of the year 2006 has showed that 29 % of the children between the age of 0 to 23 months were suffering of diarrhea during the last two weeks before the study. Enda Graf Sahel is carrying out a Nutrition Programme in that region, in which they want to incoorporate the SODIS Method.

Implementation Strategy

The already existing nutrition groups, the medical staff and the focal point for nutrition will be mobilised to undergo a SODIS training. These local leaders, once they are trained will organise trainings for the women as well as for the schools.
The national authorities will be sensitised through their technical department like the directorate of Hydraulic, the national society of water of Senegal (SONES) and Senegalese Water (SDE). National workshop will be organised for that purpose.
On the regional level meeting will be organised for the local population, the medical staff and local leaders
The bottle supply sheme will be organised through the already existing chanel of the nutrition project.
