Project Zone

The proposed project area for the implementation of the SODIS technology is the rural area of Sierra Leone. As the NGO owns a farm in Nyangba Town, Koya Rural District, it seems to be suitable to base and spread the SODIS methode from that base. Through previous activities in the rural area like solar electrification, the mobile life skill training, rural electronics workshop and the agricultural project has gained a wide experience with this community and is respected in that zone.

Implementation Strategy

Willing villages, which want to participate in the SODIS will be found by a radio announcement.and selected. Then the choosen villagers will be trained as promotors by the staff of the Water and Sanitation Department of the Organisation.
Further the cooperation with the health center will ease to sensitise the people for water borne diseases. The health center will also be included to do the monitoring of the families.

If the result of the first 6 months are promising the whole activity will expand to 50 villages in this region.

  • Training: The training will be using participatory methods. At the end the promoters will get an ID card, which testifies that they are trained to promote Sodis and to give a certain recognition to training
  • Bottle supply sheme: As the promoters are not paid, they are given 100 Pet bottles to sell to the user. This will motivate them to do the promotion and will also garantee them a small income. In the long run a bottle collect point in Allentown will be built up to be able to sell the bottles.
