Project Zone

The project zone lies in the east of Burkina Faso in the province of Gagna. About 41 % of the population is taking its drinking water during the dry season from modern wells. During the rainy season they use traditional wells or other open water sources. In this region Helvetas is already implementing a nutrition programme for pregnant and breast feeding women, in which the SODIS methode will be integrated.

Implementation Strategy

  • Train the trainers, who are already in charge of the hygiene education of the programme, so that they can introduce the method there
  • Training of the promotors will be done together with the health center
  • Promotion and Sensitisation will be done on the level of Health Center, the villages and the households
  • The bottle supply will be organised through the same channel like the medicine of the Health Center
